New survey data from SAMHSA to underscore two of our key message points: 1) AUD is common (29 million adults perceive that they ever had a substance use problem) and 2) recovery can be profound and lasting (72% consider themselves to be in recovery or to have recovered). Having AUD is not the problem. Having AUD and not managing it is. We get it. We can help. We'd love to talk.

Binge drinking reached historic highs among adults 35 to 50 in 2022, according to an NIH-funded study. While binge drinking has generally declined for the past 10 years among younger adults, adults aged 35 to 50 in 2022 reported the highest prevalence of binge drinking ever recorded for this age group, which also represents a significant past-year, five-year, and 10-year increase.

The numbers would suggest that in any given group of 100 people, roughly 30 people exhibit unhealthy alcohol use, roughly 10 struggle with alcohol use disorder and about 90% of those who need help won’t get it – mostly due to stigma and denial. 2. Share a daily gratitude list with someone. [Kudos and appreciation to my best friend Mark for this one!]
3. Start each day out with something healthy that appeals to you: meditation, walk, exercise, yoga, communication with a friend in recovery. Do it first thing to get your day moving in a positive direction right away. [Full credit to my brother for this one!]
