Founder’s Statement
My name is Pete Bird. My story is unremarkable. Which I came to realize is, sadly, quite remarkable.
I knew I had a problem with alcohol for years. But despite it, I was successful. How could I have had a serious problem? I denied it. I rationalized it. I tried to hide it. Until I couldn’t. Then I got help. The more people I talked with in recovery, the more I realized how common this pattern is. And the more I heard the refrain: “I just wish I had started treatment sooner.”
I created Box Now in hopes of contributing in some way to reducing stigma and accelerating help for people with addiction in general and unhealthy alcohol use in particular.
